How to specify the Default Email Account in Mac Mail

mail-iconFollowing up from my earlier article, you may wonder how to specify which email account your message comes from when you hit the “New Message” button. It’s a tad hidden and perhaps a little unintuitive to discover if I may say.

Here’s how to do it:

  • open Mac Mail
  • head over to Mail – Preferences
  • click the Composing tab
  • under Addressing, find an option that reads “Send New Messages from…”, together with a drop down menu of your email accounts

Select the one you like, close the window, and write a new email. Now your desired email account is being used by default.
