So we got a new Capital One credit card the other day. I’m the main account holder and got a second card for my wife. Both cards arrived and have different card numbers, but they share the same account. So far so good.
I created an online account with my user credentials, and my wife created one for herself. The first hurdle was to make her an “authorised user” on my account so she could see transactions. This didn’t work online, so we popped into a Capital One Cafe and we sorted this out there and then. All good!
However, she couldn’t add her card to the Apple Pay Wallet, it always came up with an error. The fix was quite remarkable, thanks to the help of an online technician I spoke to at the branch:
- once the card is added to Apple Pay, it asks to open the Capital One app
- in the app, I (as the main account holder) had to login as me, after logging out my wife
- I then had to scan my own card on her phone to verify
- Apple Pay was happy and the card was activated
- in the app, I could now log out and my wife could log back in
Fascinating how scanning my card on her phone worked – just like it was a Point of Sale terminal. Remarkable!
Just in case this happens to you, or we have to do this again 🙂
