Fixed: AirPods disconnect when connecting PS5 controller

- by

I’ve experienced an annoying phenomenon on my Windows 11 PC: whenever I had my AirPods connected via Bluetooth and attached by Dualsense PS5 controller, moments later the AirPods would disconnect and not re-connect. Not great when you’re settling in for a quick gaming session at the end of a long day.

I’ve tried everything from “trying again” to different models of AirPods, to hacking all kinds of system files to absolutely no avail. I read that it possibly has to do with Bluetooth bandwith and that perhaps one device connects because the other one hugs too much. Either way, I felt there had to be a way to make this work.

Thankfully there was, and it’s extremely simple:

  • turn off Bluetooth
  • turn on Bluetooth again
  • connect the AirPods
  • connect the Dualsense controller
  • everything stays connected!

I know this sounds insane, but it works (at least for me at the time of writing). Who knows or cares why. Massive thanks to a tip from Dimy420 for this tip!

Sometimes simple is best!
